THE UNION FLAG FLIES OVER JAMESTOWN
The sight of the British Union flag flying has not always been welcomed in these waters. It may have been be a few hundred years since ships of the Royal Navy regularly plied this part of the USseaboard, but even today the locals here are not averse to tactfully reminding British visitors of exactly what was visited on these shores by ships of the Royal Navy in the name of "protecting British interests abroad" !!

 However the Union flag that has been flying over the Jamestown Boatyard all this week has altogether more friendly connotations. Following a tradition that originated in the Finnish Nautor Swan Boatyard of flying the national flags of whatever yachts happened to be in the yard at the time, the Jamestown Yard was flying the Union flag in recognition of the fact that Cosmic Dancer had been entrusted to their care for a week - and we could not have been in better hands! The friendliness and professionalism of the yard staff were second to none, and in the space of a week they successfully resolved a niggling steering bearing problem that had stubbornly resisted all previous attempts by a European boatyard to solve.
 

As Cosmic Dancer sailed out of Rhode Island Sound today she was a high spirited lady, rejoicing in the new lightness of touch that had returned to her helm after several years of becoming progressively more arthritic in that department!! She positively skipped across the waves in the near perfect sailing conditions from Newport to Stonington.
 The next few days will see us return toNew York before resuming our original journey northwards after what has been a necessary, but hugely interesting and very worthwhile diversion down Long Island Sound.
