WHIRLAWAY
BRISTOL 47
Winter
2005
"Everything is great about the boat, except for the refrigeration
setup," exclaimed the owners’ of Whirlaway. "The
system is somewhat reliable at best, the stainless steel box seems
to have no insulation, and we’re going to have to take a yoga
class this winter if we want to be able to continue to reach down
into the box to get some food for the kids!"
" How about a completely new system, better & larger insulated
space, and a front-loading door?" "We’ve done a
bit (understatement) of research and are very interested in a new
Glacier Bay system and custom box."
" OK”" said JBY’s Carl & Kevin. "We’re
going to have to remove a lot of joinery to get the box out……hopefully
it will fit out of the companionway……who knows what
else we’ll find." "Their new systems make the existing
look like a Dinosaur, we should be able to maximize the space as
the Glacier Bay panels size to insulation ratio is amazingly small
(the stainless box had four inches of foam outside of it, which
had separated from the box some time ago), the panels are constructed
individually in place, going to need a new countertop, new top &
front loading doors, new joinery, varnish work, latches, racks,
etc. etc."Going to take some time."
Short of it is…… Whirlaway’s owners were extremely
helpful & happy with this successful job. The new system runs
incredibly well, the insulation/hold-over properties of the new
refrigeration & freezer spaces are beyond our high expectations,
these spaces are larger and very well thought out, and the yoga
class was cancelled.
